Thailand moves further into precision medicine
Thailand’s healthcare sector is increasingly extending beyond established hospital care into areas at the forefront of medical research.
One recent example is the development of personalised cancer vaccines through a collaboration involving Thailand’s Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), Chulalongkorn University and Seqker Biosciences.
In June 2026, the programme entered human trials focusing initially on breast, gastric and colorectal cancers. More recent reporting has described treatment of a small number of international patients within the programme.
What is a personalised cancer vaccine?
Unlike conventional vaccines designed to prevent disease, personalised therapeutic cancer vaccines are developed for an individual patient who already has cancer.
Researchers analyse genetic information from a patient’s tumour to identify mutations that may produce distinctive targets known as neoantigens. These can then be used to design a vaccine intended to help the immune system recognise the tumour more specifically.
This process brings together genomic sequencing, computational analysis, immunology and highly individualised treatment design. Seqker describes its own platform as using tumour genomic data and computational tools to identify and prioritise neoantigens for patient-specific vaccine development.
Research built over several years
The current programme is part of a broader research effort rather than an isolated development.
Chulalongkorn University’s Center of Excellence in Systems Biology lists personalised neoantigen vaccines for solid cancers among its research focus areas, while its Cancer Immunotherapy Excellence Center works across areas including cellular immunotherapy, neoantigens, cancer vaccines and genomic research.
Seqker’s current pipeline also lists its personalised neoantigen cancer vaccine programme in clinical development for solid tumours.
